Spring brings a time of new growth and renewal! ELI is excited to share about a door that is opening for a new library outreach in Chimutu Primary School in Malawi and an expanding Early Education Program. Children deserve the opportunity to grow physically through recreation, mentally through learning, and spiritually, knowing that they are fearfully and wonderfully made. The heavy rains have receded, and village children can once again make their way to the Early Education Program where they are inspired to learn and their imaginations can soar.

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. Psalm 139:14

Susu Library - Early Education Program

Recently, children in the Early Education Program were sent home with paper, pencils and crayons and directed to create imaginative drawings of their homes and family. It was the first time they had ever been asked to represent their life, and it was truly beautiful to witness their creativity and care in depicting their homes. Their drawings revealed imagination and ability to think beyond what they see every day.

Mr Kenneth (Zambia Director) has been challenging the students at Susu and the schools participating in the Mobile Library Program to participate in focused discussion groups, where students are asked for their opinions about a specific issue centered on the value of a library in their life and that of a village. He believes that it is important for the children to develop critical thinking skills and public communication skills - valuable and necessary if these children are to be the future leaders of Zambia! This particular activity has become a favorite of the children and they talk about expanding this idea to other schools all across Zambia. Mr Kenneth continues to raise the bar in learning at the Susu Library with poetry and singing competitions, chess clubs, and now with the Focused Discussion Groups, encouraging children to dialogue with one another using their imaginations.

Personal awards and trophies for their school. First time ever!

Banana Plantation Update

Thank you for praying. The first fruits are being harvested and thanks to an ELI friend, more drip lines have been installed and consistent irrigation will now be available.

The EL Malawi Mobile library serves very rural villages on their Saturday visits, and now a new door has opened to minister to children from those villages in Chimutu Primary School! This school has 3,300 students and 53 teachers. Despite the school’s large enrollment they lacked sports equipment. Jacob reported, “This school had been seeking sports equipment for a considerable period, reaching out to multiple individuals and organizations for assistance, but without success.” ELI is thankful to provide this equipment through our friends and donors; you are making a difference.

The Deputy Head Teacher, Jane, warmly received the ELI donation and expressed a heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the school and students.

The students were thrilled with this wonderful gift, which included netballs and poles, soccer goal posts and real soccer balls which replaced the homemade variety of plastic bags stuffed with leaves and other discarded materials. School sports are vital in team building and developing physical bodies in play and recreation.

Mr. Jacob also delivered a plastic bin of books to this school, which teachers were anxious to receive as there were only a very few books for the children to read. The school has also requested Bibles for spiritual education as none are available for the students. Chimutu Primary School is the main school for the children living in the three villages served by the Mobile Library program and ELI has witnessed the children's incredible hunger to learn, so the next Boxes of Blessing shipment (in April) will gift this school with over three hundred books including Bibles, educational resources and games. Imagine their surprise when these boxes arrive in late August! Thank you for supporting this gift - what an investment in the future of thousands of children.

Thank you for your prayers and gifts. In late April, eighty Boxes of Blessings will begin their journey to our projects in Zambia and Malawi. With the addition of two start up libraries in Malawi, the number of students that will have access to Bibles, quality books, educational resources and other treasures is almost 15,000! You are impacting many lives, communities that could eventually impact nations. Our next shipment leaves in August and we pray that at least 100 boxes will be shipped. Financial gifts to purchase local language Bibles and more children's Bibles are especially welcome.

Please also consider supporting our Basic Needs program. Hunger never stops in Malawi and the EL team is grateful to deliver food and basic supplies that meet real needs and just as important - give hope for a better day.

Please check out our Love In Action catalogue for opportunities to bless others with an easy way to become a monthly donor or give a very welcome one time gift. May the Lord bless you.

Thank you for partnering with ELI to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ

in word and deed.
