Good News - September 2026 | Boxes of Blessings

September was full of joy and excitement as the 94 Boxes of Blessings shipped last April safely arrived in Kabwe (Zambia) and Lilongwe (Malawi). Distribution of the books and resources started quickly. Mr. Kenneth and Mr. Jacob both commented on the quality of the "blessings" found in the boxes and how lovingly and carefully they were packed. They know that every box is prayed over and sent with love.

The children and many adults living in the villages we serve have few or no opportunities to develop the literacy or numeracy skills so necessary for today's world. There are many reasons for this, but often the lack of basic educational resources is a major issue. The Boxes of Blessings are carefully packed with items to encourage learning at many levels, with focus for the development of critical thinking skills and imagination. Games and toys encourage play, which helps children think creatively and interact socially. These are important skills for a life beyond subsistence farming in a small village.
Definitions for literacy and numeracy differ a bit between respected educational communities and organizations, but the Queensland Government (Australia) publishes the following.
Literacy is the ability to read, view, write, design, speak and listen in a way that allows us to communicate effectively and make sense of the world.
Numeracy is the ability to confidently use mathematics to meet the everyday demands of life.

Malawi | Chimutu Village
Mr. Godfrey has been serving as the Village Book Monitor from the very beginning of the program. He is a very respected and trusted member of the community, and the children know they are welcome at his small center. He expects 10 -15 children daily and he reports that in addition to reading, creating with the building blocks is a favorite activity. Mr. Godfrey hopes that one day, there will be a small library in Chimutu village and he will be chosen as the librarian!

We at ELI ask that you would prayerfully consider becoming a monthly supporter; but a gift of any amount to help support the libraries and their outreach programs is always appreciated. Hundreds of children are still waiting for resources that will improve their learning and knowledge; to give them skills to change their lives and strengthen their communities.
Thank you for partnering with ELI to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
